The Gathering!

Posted by on 2/26/2013

It began quietly. One day a small black and white cat appeared at our warehouse doors, looking hungry and tired. So, we fed him. The next day, he was back Then again, the following day. About a week later, a second cat began showing up to eat as well. Hey, no big deal. It wasn't a problem feeding a couple of hungry strays. But each day, more cats arrived. Some days just one or two, other days groups of six or more. Our cat population had skyrocketed, from those first few stragglers to what could only be described as a herd! Or is it a gaggle? And still more were arriving each day! Apparently word had gotten out, and now every cat in the valley was showing up for a free meal.

So we set up a special feeding area, purchased large containers for storing food, and each day, made sure all the cats got a full meal, even on weekends. But then, some well-intentioned "helper" in our Receiving Department thought it would be a good idea to provide our feline visitors with canned food as well as dry. Of course the cats loved it, and quickly adapted their important daily schedules of scratching and cleaning to attend these gourmet meals. And every day more cats continued to arrive.

Last Friday we ran out of canned food. Instead of going to the store to buy more, on Saturday I fed the cats only dry food. Everything seemed fine when I left. Perhaps I just didn't notice. But on Sunday, I arrived to a very different scene. There were, what seemed like hundreds of cats silently waiting. And watching. There were cats on the fence. There were cats on the benches. There were cats in the trees, and on the roof, angrily staring down at me. The awnings above the windows had been shredded to tatters, there was a pile of dead mice in front of the office, and there appeared to be several crude etchings of cat food cans scratched into the warehouse door!

It had all the makings of an Alfred Hitchcock movie, and you know how they always end! Needless to say, I slowly backed out of the parking lot and headed straight to the store to buy more canned cat food. And cat treats too, just in case!

Great products, great prices, and a great many cats!
