A Box of Chocolates!

Posted by on 2/12/2013

Yes, thank you, I am fully aware that it was a 5 lb box of premium chocolate with assorted nuts and crème fillings! What's your point? Hey, I'm not the one who left it lying around where anyone who just happened to be walking by would see it and be tempted to take just one or two, or perhaps even thirty-five pieces.

How was I supposed to know that it was a Valentines Day gift for someone special? It was just sitting there. And it was kind of open already, you know, with only a ribbon and bow holding the lid on, and that slid right off, almost by itself.

And yes, I am also aware that I could have taken one or two pieces, removed the empty papers, then shuffled the rest so no one would know any of the delightful treats were missing. Actually, I did that, and it worked quite well, for about the first twenty pieces. But by then there wasn't enough candy to fill the huge gaps! I even tried re-filling the box with Candy Corn left over from Halloween. But that didn't work very well either. So then, I thought, what if I cut a hole in the bottom and pretend that a mouse got into it. That sounded reasonable. But, I cut the hole too big and all the rest of the candy fell out of the bottom! And I couldn't just put it back and pretend nothing happened. So I destroyed the evidence. OK, I ate the evidence!

Now, what I needed was a plan. So I cut a piece of cardboard to perfectly fit the box. Then, I carefully glued the cardboard to the bottom of the box. Next, I filled the box with chocolate chips that I found in the kitchen cupboard. It looked pretty good! But unfortunately, I over-estimated the amount of glue needed for the job. And that explains why there is a now heart shaped box of chocolate chips permanently stuck to the coffee table in the living room.
