Malachite is a copper carbonate with bands of two or more shades of green throughout. Malachite is derived from the Greek word “malache” (herb). The characteristic green in malachite is actually made up of copper, with the amount of water in the specimen affecting the intensity of the color. More water will make the green lighter; less water makes the green more intense. Total absence of water will make Malachite black! Legend says that Malachite is a cure for convulsions, and has been used as a talisman for children to ward off evil spirits. Holding Malachite is said to calm the nervous system. Malachite can be easily scratched and is very fragile. Washing Malachite will remove its protective polish and can be damaged by acids. It is found in Zaire, Chile, Australia, France, England and Arizona.

These are gorgeous beads! Great quality too!! I bought them to aid in making a necklace and earrings from some green beads I have collected over the years but never did anything with. These were the perfect addition and really made my day!

Beautiful color and contrast, holes too big
Beautiful. No two are alike. Nice heft. Holes are a bit too big for #8 nylon thread, though, and Jewelry Supply doesn't carry wider string in color.

What do you mean by synthetic malachite?

A:
Synthetic malachite simply means man-made. Typically made from resin "block" and then whittled and shaped into individual beads that mimic the same striated design found in real malachite. Our synthetic malachite is a very close duplicate to the real thing with the same slight variances in color and design at a fraction of the cost of real malachite.
