This item is guaranteed to be solid 14 Karat Gold (14K). Don’t be confused by the low price. While others may try to fool you by adding the words “filled” or “plated” next to the 14K, those products are not solid 14K Gold.

Only solid 14 Karat Gold can legally be called 14 Karat Gold or 14K Gold and usually bears the mark 14K or .585 on the item, signifying the item is solid 14K Gold . Some small items may not include this mark due to size, which is why it is important to buy from a reputable company like JewelrySupply, with a quality reputation of over 35 years.

Here’s a brief explanation to help you be certain what you are getting: If you cut a 14 Karat Gold item in half you will find the same 14 Karat Gold metal all the way through. 14 Karat Gold is required by law to be 58.5% pure 24 Karat Gold. Because pure 24 Karat Gold is too soft to be used as jewelry or findings, it is hardened by adding 10 parts Sterling Silver to the 14 parts 24 Karat Gold = 58.5%, or sometimes shown as 14/24.

Gold Filled is a thin layer of 14 Karat Gold heat bonded to the surface of another, cheaper metal, usually brass. While it looks real and is a fine product it cannot be sold as 14 Karat Gold. If you cut a Gold Filled item in half you will see a very thin layer of Gold, but the rest ot the item will be Brass.

Gold Plated is an even thinner layer of 14 Karat Gold electroplated onto brass, copper, pewter or other inexpensive metal. It is pretty, but will wear off over time. Cut in half all you will see is the cheaper base metal, brass, pewter, steel, copper, etc.
