Rhodochrosite gets its name from the Greek word for pink (“rhodon”) and color (“chros”). It is the official state rock of Colorado and comes in colors of pink, rose, and nearly white with bands of the same colors. It is found in Argentina, Mexico, Namibia, Spain, South Africa, Romania and the U.S.
Rhodochrosite should only be cleaned in cool, soapy water. It was discovered during the Incan Empire and the mine was abandoned as the empire fell. It wasn’t until about 1940, when a German by the name of Franz Mansfeld rediscovered it. Rhodochrosite is useful during times of physical stress, and arouses passion and courage in the one who wears it. |
